Style and Instructions

Careful attention to these style guidelines when entries are made will result in a consistant look on the wiki pages and easy use by all project members when writing.

Citation

Citation: The citation should be enclosed in square brackets, and consist of three items:

  1. Hyphen-seperated list of all author last names. If there is a legal publically available copy on the web, this should be linke to this item. We assume that copies maintained by the authors are legal, as are versions that reside on the Web sites of the events or journals in which they appear. Do not link copies that can be located by a search but do not appear to reside on servers that violate copyright.
  2. The string (doi) linked to a document object identifier, preferably maintained by the publisher such as ACM or IEEE. In the case of a monograph (book), use the DOI from the publisher's Web site.
  3. A period character linked to a local version available to ReiliNets group members. All references that are available in electronic form should be uploaded into the private ResiliNets directory, even if publicly available, since content on the Web may be ephemeral. The one exeption is Internet RFCs, which we can assume will always be available on the Web. Instructions on uploading local copies of papers.

Authors: Comma seperated list of all author names with the conjunction “and” between the second to last and last. Use full first names middle initials if they are known, even if a particular reference does not use them, e.g.
James P.G. Sterbenz
James P.G. Sterbenz and David Hutchison
James P.G. Sterbenz, David Hutchison, and Bernhard Plattner

Title: Full title with initial capitals. Use the HTML character entities for left and right double quotes rather than the ASCII double quote from the keyboard, e.g.
“A Paper on Resilient and Survivable Networks”
A Report on Resilient and Survivable Networks

Journal and conference names: Full name without abbreviations; in the case of conference proceedings begin with the words Proceedings of folowed by the full conference name and the acronym and abbreviation. Extremly well known conferences that are primarily known by their acronym such as SIGCOMM and INFOCOM may omit the full name, e.g.
IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking
Proceedings of ACM SIGCOMM 2007
Proceedings of IFIP Protocols for High Speed Networks (PfHSN) 2002

Location: for conferences and workshops include the city where the event was held. In the case where the city is not internationally know, follow by the state or province (if applicable) and country abbreviation, e.g.
New York
Zürich
Lancaster UK
Lawrence KS US

Page numbers: use a page range seperated by the HTML entity for an endash rather than the ASCII hypen on the keyboard.

Metadata

ResiliNets Keywords: This is one of the ResilNets keywords that relate the paper to topics of interest for ResiliNets. If you need a keyword that is not on the current list, first add it to the ResilNets keywords page, but new keywords should be added with care.

Keywords: If the paper or report has a list of keywords, they should be duplicated in this field. If there is no keyword list in the original document this field should be left blank. In the case of ACM papers the General Terms should be added to the keyword list as well as selected items from the Categories and Subject Descriptors not adequately covered by the Keywords and General Terms.

Abstract: The abstract from the original document should be replicated here and enclosed in double quotes (using the rdquo and ldquo HTML character entities)

Notes: Every listing should have a sentence or two that indicates that summarises the reference and its significane to ResiliNets.
